Today is Beautiful!

If you turn to Fox News (or any news, I just love picking on Fox News), you hear a lot of stuff about how the world is ending and how there are no more good people in the world and how everything sucks. We hear about the violence happening all around the world and how we're doomed for all eternity and everything is just going wrong and growing more wrong by the second.

      I tend to disagree.

For some reason, I seem to only see the world getting better as each moment passes.

Although I don't want to diminish, in any way, the terrible tragedies happening around the world. They're awful and are nothing less than that.

What I mean is that through those tragedies rise humans seeking to help with all those involved. Whether on a large scale, like hurricanes in the Philippines, or on a small scale with a loved one discovering he or she has cancer. We are becoming more and more educated and involved in the world around us and continue to seek for a better world. And to me, there is nothing better than that. Except for maybe actually finding that world. And cheesecake, but, I mean, I can table that comment for now.

Technology is something television and movies have taught us to fear, but as far as I can see, it's given us amazing things. Like better health care. Better ways to communicate where it seems like the person you're speaking to is, literally, sitting right in front of you. Better ways to find new information. Of course, technology sometimes seems to get in the way and we are constantly ashamed of how much we use technology. But, technology is awesome and we're truly blessed to see how far and quickly it's developing!

Let's give a quick shout out to the fact that society, generally, is seeking to be a more accepting one. Though women still aren't being paid the same and being looked at as just as good as men, and there is still a stigma attached to African Americans, and Latin Americans are still "ruining this country," and homosexuals can't hold hands in public, (so on and so on), we, as a society, is constantly seeking to change all of that. I don't know about you, but I'm being made aware of a lot of ways I could be more accepting every day! And how awesome is that, right?

All in all, we are learning how powerful love can be and trying to be a more loving society. We aren't afraid to go against the grain. We are trying to get in better shape. Trying to think before we buy that pair of shoes we really don't need. Trying to look at the labels before we buy seeing if they have that little frog that ensures that product didn't hurt a whole rain forest. Trying to understand that we share this planet with 7 billion other people and tons and tons of animals. Trying to educate ourselves and others. Trying to love everything and everyone the best we know how. And I say there's not much wrong with that. Listening, loving, learning, it's all part of the great thing!

Maybe that's why I sang "Cockeyed Optimist" for general auditions last semester...

Woo!
Mary Taylor

Because how cool is it that this was like a thing that opened everyone's eyes! Woo!
